Visiting the Pacific Coast Air Museum
The Pacific Coast Air Museum, located in Santa Rosa near the Charles M. Shultz Airport, is a non-profit museum dedicated to promoting the restoration and safe operation and display of historic aircraft. It provides the chance for preschoolers and the rest of the community to see some amazing planes up close.
When you get there, you will walk through the gift shop and exhibits area where they have aviation memorabilia on display to help educate you and your preschooler. Then you will walk outside to the field where there are approximately 20 planes for you to explore. Try to go on the third weekend of the month, Climb Aboard Weekend, and your preschooler will actually
get to go inside one of these amazing machines. It’s free for children under 12 and a $5.00 donation is requested for adults so it makes it quite affordable for the whole family. They have a newly added shaded patio/picnic area so pack a lunch and enjoy a nice outdoor activity with your preschooler.
Benefits for Preschoolers
If you have an airplane loving preschooler you definitely want to visit the Pacific Coast Air Museum. He/she will be amazed at the size of these planes – preschoolers are used to seeing them flying high in the sky and do not really have a sense of scale. Also, they are in a big open field so even the most rambunctious preschooler will have plenty of opportunity to work off some energy. Check their website for special events and air shows too.
Disadvantages for Preschoolers
Try not to go on a hot day! When you are checking out the planes, the only shade you will have is under the wings. It can also be a little boring for children who have no interest in the aircraft. There are volunteers that work there but no one to really give you a tour so you are pretty much on your own.Details
