Tumble Tots at Rohnert Park Gymnastics

Mom, Pop, & Me classes offered by Rohnert Park Gymnastics are age appropriate (2 1/2 to 4 year olds) and are taught by an amazing instructor, Teacher Mark. He engages the children immediately and gets them to follow directions like you wouldn’t believe! And you get to enjoy this experience with your preschooler as well! (No, you don’t have to do the tumbling and balance beams. You just have to sing a few songs and help your preschooler through the obstacle courses.)

When you arrive you and your preschooler will remove your shoes and join the group on the gym floor for a little “circle time.” You will sing some songs, do some stretching and some movement to music. Then, the instructor will have the preschoolers follow some simply directions such as hopping in place.

Next you will move on to the first obstacle course. The instructor will explain (using one of the students as a volunteer) how to proceed through the course and where the parents need to help out. The children then stand in a line and take turns balancing, doing handstands against a wall, running and jumping into the “pit”, etc. After that they move on to another obstacle course with similar instruction.

When the structured skill building time is over, free play on the trampolines and in the “pit” begins! You will be amazed watching these preschoolers show no fear! The class ends with parachute time and a hand stamp.

Benefits to Preschoolers

Building a healthy lifestyle starts during the preschool years. Introducing preschoolers to a variety of activities, such as gymnastics, will help develop their gross motor skills, keep them fit, and will build his/her self esteem. And boy will they have fun! Your preschooler will have a great experience that they can build on for years to come.

Disadvantages to Preschoolers

You may consider the cost the biggest issue with the gymnastics classes. Starting at $126 per month (as of 10/07) for a once per week class may seem a little high. But if you consider the benefits to your preschooler it will far out way the costs. Also, you can register for twice a week at a cost of $203 per month (as of 10/07) which actually seems a little more economical. Call them up and see if you can get a free trial class to see if it is the right choice for your preschooler.
