ToddLearn - Rohnert Park
A new preschooler “hot spot” -- ToddLearn -- has just opened up in Rohnert Park, just a few minutes south of Santa Rosa. They provide parent participation classes for preschoolers (Explorers classes) that allow time for play, making new friends, crafts, movement, and story time in a location that is clean, well lit and exciting to children.
The Class Experience at ToddLearn
When you walk in to ToddLearn, you will be greeted with a smile and are asked to remove your shoes to help keep the play area clean and nice (don’t forget to wear socks!). The hour starts off with a little free play then the leader asks all kids to gather for circle time where songs are sung and stories are read. At that point the activities begin! From pretend tea parties to parachute time, your preschooler is kept busy with fun and exciting experiences.ToddLearn Costs
At $204 for a 12 week session it may seem a little pricey but you are really getting 2 days each week (with the Park Pass) for $17 per week. They will soon be starting a Preschool Program that will be for a longer period each day (I believe it will be 2 hours) but it will still involve parent participation. You cannot just drop your preschooler off and pick him/her up when the class is over. If you are interested in the Preschool Program check out the Toddlearn website, www.toddlearnrpca.com.Advantages for Preschoolers Attending Toddlearn
Even though the time you spend at ToddLearn is somewhat structured, if your preschooler is really into playing at a specific learning station he or she is not pushed into engaging in the scheduled activity. They are allowed to continue to explore on their own and come back to the group when they are ready. Another advantage is that if you sign up for classes you are given a “Park Pass” that will allow you to come back at open play times that are completely unstructured so your preschooler can continue to explore and make new friends.Disadvantages for Preschoolers Attending Toddlearn
Preschoolers are known to have short attention spans but with only an hour long class it seems a little bit rushed to fit everything in. Just when the child is getting into an activity, they are signaled to move on to circle time or pretend time, etc. As the group attends more classes and begins to understand the routine of the hour, they will begin to follow directions more quickly and move on to the next activity with ease.Tip: Don't forget to bring snacks for the car ride home. Preschoolers work up quite an appetite during class and will really need pick me up! And don't forget to wear clean socks!
