The Pottery Studio - Santa Rosa
The Pottery Studio in downtown Santa Rosa has everything your preschooler will need to create a ceramic work of art he/she will be proud of. There are many different unfinished ceramic pieces there to choose from – picture frames, mugs, jewelry boxes, figurines – at prices ranging from $3 to $35. Choose a quiet afternoon, preferable Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday (20% discount for children) and spend some quality time at The Pottery Studio with your preschooler.
The shop is well organized, clean, not cluttered, and there are signs that tell you what to do. If you and your preschooler are new to the art of ceramic painting the friendly staff will assist you and in no time you will be on the way to decorating your piece. They provide the paints, brushes, palettes, and even aprons so all you need to bring is your preschooler (and maybe a snack)! Watch out though! Once your preschooler finishes one ceramic piece, he/she will be hooked and want to PAINT MORE!!Although it may not be the best place to take a group of preschoolers, The Pottery Studio does birthday parties as well. So keep it in mind if you have a preschooler that is turning 5 or for future birthday party ideas.
Advantages for Preschoolers at The Pottery Studio
First of all, Tuesday-Thursday children 13 and under receive a 20% discount so be sure to go mid week if you can. Second, your preschooler gets to paint and you don’t have to deal with the mess at your house! The studio provides stamps and stencils that preschoolers can use which make it easy to add a design to their project. They have also have “kid’s brushes” so your preschooler can be free to create and not worry about ruining the good brushes. You can time your visit so your preschooler can create “the perfect gift” for a relative or loved ones birthday (just be sure to remember to allow for firing time-about 7-10 days). How proud will he/she be to present a one of a kind creation!
Disadvantages for Preschoolers
If your preschooler has a relatively short attention span, this probably isn’t the best activity to try – you will end up doing all the painting! Also, when your preschooler is done with his/her project, it still needs to be fired so you can’t take it home right away. Another thing is that it can get pretty pricey if you’re not careful. Not only do you pay for the ceramic item, you pay a studio (firing) fee based on the price of the item. So if you choose a $3 piece, you pay a $5 studio fee on top of that. But, if your preschooler is making it for a gift, it is pretty reasonable considering that it will be a treasured art piece for years to come.Details
