When you arrive and your preschooler gets that first glimpse of the ocean, you will see such excitement on his/her face! With many spots to park and get out to walk around you will surely find a location that will suite you. Some require a short, relatively level hike to get to the water while others have paths that seem to lead straight down! Be sure that your preschooler can handle whichever path you choose.
Benefits for Preschoolers
One of the best activities at the beach for preschoolers is exploring tide pools. He/she will get to see starfish, sea snails, hermit crabs, anemones, barnacles, and more! Check out the tide report to see if you will be there during low tide which is the best time to find these amazing sea creatures.Really, just about everything you can think of to do at the coast is beneficial to your preschooler. Try reading some ocean related books before your trip and discuss it with your preschooler during your day at the beach. Also, while you are there, help your preschooler collect shells, rocks and interesting driftwood to create a seashell wind chime to commemorate your trip when you get home.
Tips for your trip:
• Bring sunscreen! Even if it is cloudy, the burning rays are still shining through.• The weather can be cold so bring a jacket, sweater, blankets, etc.
• Bring a change of clothes for your preschooler. Better yet, bring 2 extra sets!
• Don’t forget buckets, shovels, and other sand toys.
• If you have a kite, bring it along as well. The wind at the beach is almost always perfect for flying kites.
• Pack a lunch and snacks, there aren’t too many places to grab something to eat.
