Teaching a preschooler how to ice skate is no easy task. But, the Redwood Empire Ice Arena in Santa Rosa gives you the opportunity to try it out during a skate session specifically for beginners. A fifteen minute lesson along with option to use a chair for balance as you skate makes this a fun experience for preschoolers of all skill levels. And when you are all tired out from skating, you can enjoy a cup of hot chocolate in the Warm Puppy Café!
Then when the session is over (or sooner if your preschooler tires our!) you can take a little break and enjoy hot chocolate or even lunch in the Warm Puppy Café. With it’s windows facing the rink, it’s a pleasant place to sit and watch skaters or the Zamboni machine clean the ice.
The Parents and Puppy Practice session costs $5.50 for each person participating and there is no skate rental fee. For normal session the cost is $7 for 12 and up and $5.50 for 11 and under with a $2 skate rental fee for everyone. So it really is a bargain for the family.

Benefits to Preschoolers
Doing something as a family is probably the most important thing you can do for your preschooler. Even if you have never skated before, you preschooler will enjoy learning with you. Ice skating will get your preschooler moving and at the end of the session he/she may be skating on their own!Disadvantages to Preschooler
Depending on the crowd, there may still be skaters who are not at the beginner level. Just watch out for them and keep your preschooler closer to the wall of the rink if people seem to be zooming past. Also, the Warm Puppy Café is a little expensive so set limits of “just hot chocolate” before you go in to avoid tantrums.Details
