Gymboree Play and Music - Rohnert Park

Gymboree Play and Music is a trusted name for child development programs. The newly opened Rohnert Park facility is bright, clean, and colorful and the staff is friendly and knowledgeable. They offer free preview classes so you can try them out before you commit. The Level 7 classes are geared to preschoolers (age 3-5). Preschool age classes offered are Gymboree VII, Music III, Art III, and soon there will be Yoga 2. Some of the classes are “drop off” classes allowing you a little time to yourself while your preschooler learns and plays.

The Gymboree VII Learning Program is a 2 hour drop off program that starts off with some play time in the playgym, story time, social interaction, songs, and discussion of the letter of the day. The preschoolers then move into the art room and play with the tactile table and do an art project.

After clean up some more time is spent in the playgym working off some energy. The session ends back in the art room working on the Leap Frog Learning Tables. These are electronic interactive learning tools that preschoolers can’t keep their hands off of! Parents are then asked to join their preschooler and the instructor goes over what was skills were covered and how to reinforce the learning at home.

Music III is a parent participation class (not a drop off class). Preschoolers will explore different musical instruments, learn some new songs, and work on rhythm, pitch and tempo.

Art III is a parent participation optional class. It encourages preschoolers to explore art through a multi-media hands-on approach. This class will help your preschooler develop self-expression through artistic exploration.

Advantages for Preschoolers

The Learning Program truly gets your preschooler ready for the preschool environment. The programs at Gymboree are structured to move at a good pace to keep your preschooler interested yet not bored. They have a huge lobby/waiting area so if you want to stick around during a “drop off” class to make sure your preschooler is adapting you are more than welcome to. They offer free preview classes so if you are interested definitely give them a call and check it out for yourself.

By the end of the preview class my preschooler new the letter B, the sound it made, and was able to list things that start with the letter B. And after the Music preview class she was so inspired that we went home, she pulled out all of her toy instruments and we had a little jamboree!

Disadvantages for Preschooler

Being that it is a new facility, enrollment is definitely low. So, if you are looking for a program with a lot of children for your preschooler to socialize with check in with them to find out the class counts before you enroll (the small class size could be a benefit if your preschooler is a little shy!). The other disadvantage may be the cost. At $119 per month for the 2 hour weekly classes ( $69 for 45min. class $79 for 1 hour class) it seems a little pricey. But if you consider the benefits for your preschooler it may be worth it to you.

So, all in all, Gymboree is a great environment for preschoolers to learn, play, and socialize.
